View from the north rim

Mount Magazine is the highest point in Arkansas and located in the west-central part of the state. The mountain is more of a long, narrow plateau since the top is mostly flat and rimmed by cliffs. The high point is located on what is known as Signal Hill inside Mount Magazine State Park.

Mount Magazine from the southeast

There are two easy trails to the summit one from the lodge on the south rim and one from the campground on the north. The trail from the north is slightly shorter, so that's the one I took, but it was still only one mile round trip. There are only a few sections of moderate elevation gain, and the trail travels through forests typical of areas well to the north.

View from the south rim

The summit has no views, but Overlook Drive along Cameron Bluffs on the north rim of the mountain has great views as does the lodge on the south ride of the mountain.
