Spruce Knob (elevation 4863 ft) is the highest point in West Virginia. Like many of the state high points in the Appalachian Mountains, it is easily accessible via a paved road that goes to its summit.

On the summit there is a gravel walking path that goes to a few viewpoints and an observation tower. The view from the observation tower really isn't that great, with the best view from the southwestern-most point on the trail.
The entirety of the trail is a very easy walk and passes through the spruce forest that sits at the summit of the mountain. This spruce forest is relatively rare for a forest this far south, hence why it is only found at the mountain's summit.
